A surprising restaurant to be vegan in? Jerkmaica, Finsbury Park
When I say jerk what do you think of? Hot spicy meat right? Well you can get that at Jerkmaica no doubt but what might surprise you is that you can also find some great vegan food. When we went we had the curry black eyed peas with bhajia balls and a side of fried plaintain and for someone who is a dedicated carnivore, I loved it!
But for those who aren’t willing to go to far outside their comfort zone they also do a classic jerk chicken, rice and peas, which is not too hot so the perfect introduction for anyone who’s a bit afraid of spice. Our favourites out of the meat dishes we tried was the curried goat and the beef brisket which they smoke low and slow.
Plus if you’re not doing a dry start to 2018, you may well be tempted to check out their range of bottled cocktails (2 for £10!) with some interesting options including the passion fruit daiquiri and a rumgroni.
