We went along to the new burgers/ taco pop up in Casa Blue in Shoreditch.
I’ve never been here before despite working in the area and found the bar to have a decadent vibe, with padded booths and a nicely scuzzy feel. And whilst you might be thinking “not ANOTHER burger joint” this one puts an interesting twist on the classics. Shrimp burgers, lamb and chorizo burger and duck tacos are just some of the more unusual items on the menu.
My ‘Hot Havana’ chorizo and beef burger (£8.50) was nicely pink with a good flavour of chorizo but I would have preferred the brioche bun to be a little bit more toasted.
J had a ‘Mexican Baja Shrimp’ burger (£8.50) which he enjoyed and said that he loved the juicy shrimp patty which was complemented by the sweetness from the avocado mayo (though would have liked a slightly stronger garlic taste to balance it out) and a citrusy kick from the chipotle lime butter.
I really enjoyed the paprika dusted fries topped with special sauce, even though the special sauce tasted suspiciously like Marie Rose!( £3.00)
I would have liked my banana, peanut butter and popcorn (£3.50) to have more ice cream in it (I like to get proper brain freeze from my shakes) but I loved the extra layer of crunch and texture from the popcorn. J’s avocado and chocolate shake was also a hit, avocado in a sweet shake may sound unusual but it gives a lovely silkiness to the drink.
We finished up with mojito cheesecake (£3.50). This was a subtle dessert, getting the balance of flavours just right, which I enjoyed as sometimes I find overly minty desserts remind me of toothpaste.
Thank you Philip for a lovely meal!
