We went to check out the latest foodie treats at the City Pantry pop-up stalls – located on the forecourt outside the Tesco Kensington store. What a great idea and several different dishes to try from countries around the world, but within a few steps from each other!
Firstly, lets tell you about The Frenchie Duck burger – loved the demi brioche bun, confit duck was deliciously moist, fab duck crackling, and topped with blue cheese and truffle honey. Heaven on a plate!
Brookes and Jones cakes: we tucked into a salted caramel tart – salted caramel can be too salty, but this had just the right balance with beautiful buttery sweet shortcrust pastry. But we were not as keen on the cookies as they were overbaked and too crispy. Good World Cup brownie tart with colourful peanut M&M’s. Choc cake was also light, chocolatey and moist.
Caipirinha, made by Alex at the City Pantry bar – not enough of lime and sugar to balance out the cachaca. This will need to be worked on a bit more. Loved the Guarana option on the drinks menu – a traditional Brazilian soft drink.
Custom Creams nitrogen icecream were ultra smooth, with no crystals or lumps due to nitrogen freezing process; but a bit on the pricey side at £4.50 for a small tub. Loved the Irish coffee flavour as it had Baileys and Espresso.
