Duke of Delhi is a brother and sister venture. They create handmade Bombay mixes and their unique selling point is that they add these to their Bombay Mix Chocolate bars. Their range has wonderful flavours including toasted coconut, cardamom and vanilla, Indian cinnamon, and lime.
We were sent a selection of chocolate bars by the lovely Asif. Their dark chocolate contains 60% cacao and their milk chocolate contains 32% cacao. So perfect for both lovers of milk and dark chocolate, but not too dark (as would be with a higher cacao content). The Delhi sev mix is a unique base for each bar to create texture and a background spice profile.
Here are our thoughts on the selection of chocolate bars:
Milk Chocolate, Cardamon & Vanilla = Lovely toasted cardamon flavour, but overpowered the vanilla.
Dark Chocolate & Toasted Coconut = Nice balance of dark chocolate and flavour of coconut with a great texture of toasted coconut on the palate. Brought back memories of holidays in Goa eating this!
Milk Chocolate & Orange = Good balance of milk chocolate and orange, and the milk chocolate is not too sweet with the orange oil.
Dark Chocolate & Lime = A mellow lime flavour and you get a slight chilli & spice after notes. Lovely and one of our favourites!
Dark Chocolate = Good quality dark chocolate. After the nice hint of spice, the fab lingering flavours on the palate were of blackcurrants and red berries (reminding me of Santa Domingo dark chocolate and Chilean red wine which have similar flavour profiles).
Milk Chocolate & Indian Cinnamon = Nice balanced flavour of cinnamon, and its characteristics are not overwhelmed by the spices notes from the chevdo.
Thanks Asif for the wonderful chocolates. They all had a nice hint of spice from the chevdo (or chevda/chowda, however you wish to spell it). Can’t wait to try your Delhi mixes!
Their range is available online or at Fortnum and Masons. Highly recommended, so go check them out and we are sure you will enjoy them as much as we did!
