I went for a weekday lunch to Mango Tree with a friend, as I had heard they do decent Thai dishes & they have a beautiful dining room with a relaxed feel. I thought this would be ideal for a catch up with a friend who I had not seen for a few months.
They do wonderful pad thai, but ensure you try some of Chef Ian Pengelley’s special dishes selection. We had tried a gorgeous poonim yum mamuang (a thai chilli mango salad & soft-shell crab tempura), crispy on the outside & slightly chewy shell of crab with exotic note of mango & kick of chilli; pla pow (baked sea bass fillet) flaky fish complemented by citrusy notes from the lemon grass; and ped makham – roast duck with lovely sour notes from tamarind sauce & fragrant curry leaves.
Save space for dessert, especially for yummy kow niew mamuang – honey mango with sticky rice and coconut milk, topped with their legendary coconut icecream – a perfect way to end the meal. It reminded me of my travels in Thailand. Also, my friend had the chocolate brownie which came decorated with strawberries and a mint icecream scoop on a tuile.
Thank you for a lovely, relaxing lunch and friendly service. We will be back again soon.
